The Medford Emperor is a robust fixed blade knife designed to be the companion to the popular Praetorian folder. This unique concept from Medford Knife & Tool aimed to provide operators with a fixed and folding knife pair that offered nearly identical weight, feel, and size, ensuring consistent tool handling whether on a kit or as an everyday carry. The Emperor is characterized by its ultra-rugged construction, featuring a distinctive combo grind with a flat-ground tip and a hollow-ground main edge. Its design emphasizes durability and utility, often incorporating a dependable window-piercing pommel, making it suitable for demanding environments and tasks.
The Medford Emperor was first unveiled on May 9, 2012, as a new offering from Medford Knife & Tool, positioned as the fixed blade counterpart to the Praetorian folder [4]. Over its production run, the Emperor was offered in various configurations, including different blade steels and handle materials. Early versions featured D2 tool steel with a DLC finish, while later iterations saw the use of CPM-S35VN stainless steel with a tumbled finish [1, 3]. The knife was typically outfitted with G-10 handle scales and came with a Kydex sheath. Although initially a prominent model, the Medford Emperor has since been discontinued, transitioning into an archived status [5].
