The Medford FS Commando is a direct tribute to the Fairbairn-Sykes fighting knife — the double-edged dagger designed by William Fairbairn and Eric Sykes during World War II for Allied special operations forces. The original FS knife was purpose-built for one thing: close-quarters killing. Its slender symmetrical blade concentrates force at the point, the dual edge allows draws in either direction, and the waisted handle seats naturally in the fist for repeated thrusting. Medford's version preserves that geometry and runs it through the company's own manufacturing standards.
The blade is 7 inches of CPM-3V steel — non-stainless, high-toughness powdered tool steel — coated in black PVD. The handle was produced in two primary configurations: vintage brass (the USMC and military-tribute editions, with branch insignia laser-engraved on the blade) and titanium (the standard tactical variant in kydex). The brass-handled USMC edition carries the Marine Corps seal etched into the flat of the blade and ships in a brown top-grain leather sheath; the titanium variant ships in a black MKTE-stamped kydex sheath. At 12 inches overall and 11.6 oz., it is not an EDC knife — it is a collector piece and ceremony-grade fighting dagger built to the specification of the original's legacy.
The FS Commando was produced by Medford Knife & Tool as a tribute to the WWII-era Fairbairn-Sykes fighting knife, with multiple military branch editions including USMC, U.S. Army, and USN SEALs. The USMC edition features a 7-inch CPM-3V blade in black PVD, vintage brass handle, USMC laser engraving on the blade flat, and a brown top-grain leather sheath with MKT-stamped metal chape. The titanium-handle variant ships in a black kydex MKTE sheath. Full specifications: 12.00-inch OAL, 7.00-inch blade, 0.25-inch blade thickness, 0.88-inch blade width, 6.125-inch cutting edge, 11.60 oz., 25-degree sharpening angle. Carried by knife retailers including KnifeWorkx, Perry Knife Works, Knives and Tools (EU), and eKnives at time of production. The model is a limited edition / discontinued run and trades on the secondary market.
