The Medford MS The San is the compact expression of The San platform — the same PRO Series fixed blade built around the San people's bushcraft legacy, scaled down to a shorter blade and reduced overall length for EDC-friendly belt carry without sacrificing the core design philosophy. Where the standard San is a field blade meant to work hard all day, the Mini Size variant is optimized for lighter carry: closer to the body, faster on the draw, and proportioned for tasks that don't require four full inches of blade.

The DNA is identical. CPM 3V steel runs through the blade — non-stainless, uncoated, finished in a tumble that hides wear and clears glare while keeping the spine ready for a ferro rod. The full-tang G10 handle fills the hand with the same aggressive texture and fire divot. This is Medford's philosophy at a smaller scale: no compromise on materials, no shortcut on finish, just less blade for the situations where less is the right call.

The MS The San was produced as a compact variant in Medford Knife & Tool's San lineup, part of the PRO Series fixed blade family. Medford has used the MS (Mini Size) designation to offer scaled-down versions of parent models — a pattern established across both their folding and fixed blade lines. The MS variant retains the full-tang construction, CPM 3V blade steel, tumbled uncoated finish, and G10 handle scales of the standard San, condensed into a shorter package more suited to daily carry and lighter field tasks. Like all Medford PRO Series fixed blades, it was designed, machined, assembled, and finished in-house at the Phoenix, AZ facility. The model has since been retired from Medford's active catalog.
