Nine specialty trades. One roof. Every blade hand-touched by craftsmen who've earned their stripes. Come see how a Medford is actually made.
Shop Walks Over the Years
Real factory walk-arounds — no scripts, no polish. Greg takes you through the machine shop, grind room, heat treat, assembly, and shipping. This is what it actually looks like.
Greg walks through the machine shop, double disc grinder, water jet, heat treat, grind room, and assembly — nine specialties in action.
Wire EDM, flat grinders, assembly, shipping — a look at what's cranking on a typical Thursday in Phoenix.
Another tour through the factory floor — the team, the machines, the knives coming together.
What You'll See
There are at least nine specialty professions involved in making a Medford knife — and we do every single one of them in-house, in Phoenix, Arizona. Specialized grinding, water jetting and blanking, precision milling, heat treating, freehand hand grinding, sheath making, handle making, wire EDM, and assembly. That's not common. Most shops wouldn't touch the kind of work we do — not because they can't run a machine, but because they don't have years of knife part failure and expensive mistakes under their belts.
When you feel a Medford in your hands, or hear about that "bank vault" lockup — you can thank our machinists, our grinders, and every person on the floor who touches it on the way out.
The Trades
Most guys ask about the knife business and don't realize how many people and specialties are required. We've got all of them — right here.
“You've got to want to build people and careers — because you need to be able to replicate what you do, and you can't replicate it without more people. And you can't keep people if you're not helping them grow as human beings.
— Greg Medford, Founder & Designer
Why It Matters
There's a crazy amount of time, energy, effort, and craftsmanship that's gone into this team. These are not people you call up a temp agency for. These are team members you find and nurture over years of time — and that's how we can increase the amount of knives we make while simultaneously actually increasing quality. Which breaks every rule of manufacturing.
We launched on audacity and design. We made our splash on the ability to connect and promote. Now what we live on is a growing reputation for quality control — absolutely unique, high-quality, fitted, amazing American products with so much individuality to them.
Come See It In Person
