D-FM2

The Medford D-FM2 is the compact Field Master — a shorter, lighter adaptation of the FM-1 built specifically for Medford's Deployment Series. Where the FM-1 is a full-featured field utility platform, the D-FM2 strips things back to essentials: a 3.75-inch drop point blade, a clean paracord wrap handle, and a kydex sheath — enough knife for real field use, at a price point designed to bring first-time buyers into the American hand-made knife world.

The Deployment Series was Greg Medford's answer to a clear gap in his lineup. His standard production knives were purpose-built for operators and serious collectors, but the series gave younger professionals and working-class knife users a direct path to a D2 steel, American-made fixed blade without stepping over the threshold of a premium custom. Every knife in the series — tanto, drop point, dagger, small waist — is still hand finished in Phoenix, AZ, from the paracord wraps to the kydex sheaths. The D-FM2 drop point is the most versatile of the four, with a blade profile suited equally to fieldwork, camp tasks, and carry as a sidearm blade on a pack or chest rig.

The D-FM2 was part of Medford's Deployment Series, introduced as an accessible fixed blade tier designed to reach a broader audience than the brand's premium production lineup. It shared its D2 blade steel and Phoenix, AZ craftsmanship with Medford's flagship models, but at a lower price point — documented at approximately 89.95 through KnifeCenter for the coyote brown paracord variant. The series included four profiles: tanto (D-FMT), drop point (D-FM2), dagger, and small waist knife. The D-FM2 was available in multiple paracord wrap colors including black, camo, and OD green, each paired with a color-matched kydex sheath. The Deployment Series has since been discontinued from Medford's active lineup, with the brand shifting focus to premium steel fixed blades. D-FM2 examples now circulate on the secondary market.
