The Sea Wolf was Medford's answer to a serious hard-use fixed blade built for operators who work in and around water — and in conditions where the knife is as likely to be a prying tool or glass breaker as it is a cutting instrument. The design centers on an unusually wide drop-point blade in D2 tool steel, a steel chosen for its edge retention and toughness over corrosion resistance — a deliberate tradeoff for a knife expected to do real work rather than sit in a display case.

The blade's defining feature is its compound grind: flat near the tip for structural rigidity during piercing and prying, transitioning to a hollow grind along the main edge for a razor-sharp slicing bevel that sharpens quickly in the field. Running nearly the full length of the blade is a deep, machined fuller — a wide channel that reduces weight without compromising spine stiffness, and gives the Sea Wolf its most immediately recognizable visual signature. A forward-angled quillon hook at the choil locks the index finger forward of the guard, preventing any hand migration toward the edge under hard grip. Aggressive spine jimping above the guard completes the hand-control geometry.

The full extended tang runs through textured G10 scales — available in OD green, tan/coyote, and black — machined with Medford's signature terrace geometry designed to fit a range of hand sizes without requiring the grip to shift. Two machine screws secure the scales to the tang, and a lanyard hole is cut through the butt. The sheath is OD green or black kydex with a modular belt platform attachment. A CPM-3V steel option was also available for those who prioritized toughness above all else.

**Sea Wolf Short vs. Long — What's Different**

Medford produced the Sea Wolf in two blade lengths, and while they share identical geometry and handle construction, the size difference creates two meaningfully different knives in the hand.

The **Sea Wolf Short** runs a 4.5" blade with a 9.75" overall length. At this size the blade has a pronounced belly-forward drop point — the arc of the cutting edge is more curved relative to the blade height, making it faster on slicing tasks and more manageable as an EDC or concealed carry fixed blade. The fuller slot is proportionally shorter, and the overall knife sits well for waistband or ankle carry in the kydex sheath.

The **Sea Wolf Long** runs a 6.5" blade with an 11.75" overall length. The longer blade changes the character of the geometry: the tip angle becomes more clipped and angular, the fuller extends almost the full usable blade length, and the choil-to-tip distance gives the knife genuine reach for thrusting and utility cuts that the Short cannot match. Side by side, the Long reads as a fighting and fieldwork knife first; the Short reads as a tactical EDC that can handle fieldwork. Both variants used the same handle profile and sheath attachment system, so holster compatibility was identical between sizes.

Two blade sizes were offered from launch — the S (Short) at 9.75" overall and the L (Large) at 11.75" overall — along with handle colors in Black, OD Green, and Coyote Brown G10, and a Matte Black Oxide or upgraded CPM-3V steel option (+$100).

A Sea Wolf S with 5.5" Black Oxide blade also appeared in the catalog, sold by retailers like Blade HQ and KnifeWorks, indicating at least one mid-run spec change on the S variant.

All Sea Wolf configurations were eventually discontinued. As of 2026 the knife no longer appears on the Medford website, and major retailers list all variants as discontinued with no restock expected.
